Dabbler Showcase: Ramesh Jhawar

early morning

Early Morning, Jodhpur

We’ve teamed up with Artfinder – the online affordable art marketplace – to showcase artists who we think deserve to be seen by a wider audience. Our latest choice is Ramesh Jhawar, a watercolourist from India…

Self-taught Indian artist Ramesh Jhawar has won several awards for his watercolours, including the Outstanding Watercolour Award in the 2014 BoldBrush Painting contest and the Best entry award in the All India Art Exhibition organized by the Camel Art Foundation.

He says of his work:

I play with light and shades depicting the everyday life to look dreamy and surreal. Being a self-taught artist has helped me evolve an individual style rather than fetter me into one school…There is never a dearth of subjects for me as I am constantly inspired with one thing or the other.

I always carry sketchbooks to instantly paint my ideas, thoughts or images that stir me or are in visual space of my presence. I want my art to speak for itself rather than give an explanation for it.

As well as the use of colour, we love the sense of depth that Ramesh creates in his street views. Artfinder have a range of works by Ramesh available to buy at very affordable prices. Visit his Artfinder page here.
