Hair of the Dog

It’s New Year’s Day, you’ve just woken up, and you’ve vowed never to drink again. This is a terrible mistake, as the only way to get through today is to get immediately back off the wagon with a pick-me-up. Here are some songs about booze.

But first, for everyone who hid in the kitchen at last night’s knees-up and then cleared off home before they could be asked to do the washing up, here’s Jona Lewie. You’ll have been driven mad by Lewie’s Christmas earworm Stop the Cavalry all through December; You Will Always Find Me in the Kitchen at Parties was his other hit.

Right, on to the hard stuff now. Here’s The Dubliners…

… Next a couple of chasers with blues legend John Lee Hooker….

…. and to finish the night off, Frank Sinatra with One for my Baby (and One More for the Road)….

And as a special bonus track, here’s the unthinking man’s punk band Sham 69 with Hurry up Harry, perhaps one of the stupidest songs ever written. Cheers!

Thanks taylor for reminding me, on this day in particular, that the commercial world is but a swig of Fernet Branca away – I guess the link came via the rug-rat Ol’ Blue Eyes? I’m further down the pike than The Chairman of the Board, but if I had to ‘wear’ any of the dreck on your site I would probably go for the 180% Mongolian, which is also in my price range even after dropping 500 euros in Marbella last night, on a family meal worth half that……

At least the Sinatra was soothing… Happy New Year, Brit – and fellow Dabblers! xx

I think it was the reference to dog hair that brought the spammer to these shores, MM.

We also had thousands of hits the other day on a saucy pic of Katherine Jenkins that Susan posted back in May. If you search for KJ on Yahoo you’ll see it. Thus the internet.

Dublin, seismically shifted since the days of the band and O’Donoghue’s boozer, our daughter, holidaying with friends in Dublin over new year spent the eponymous eve in a transvestite vaudeville club, the evening ended with the big Sally Bowles number, daughter and friends on stage fronting the trannies. I blame the good Friday agreement, lost causes etc. Nice Francis Sinatra number Brit.
