Ha! V amusing. I imagine the subjects have seen this sort of thing but they persist nevertheless - how does that work? Puzzling.

Did you watch Nathan Barley? I thought it was hilarious and, with weird prescience, satirised on mainstream TV a youth culture that had hardly started. It's still spot-on today, making the puzzle even more perplexing.

Actually, it might happen - I suppose something similar has happened before, at least in art: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_to_order. But the later embrace of 'order' in European politics wasn't so benign!

Usually in downturns, style gets more conservative but it's funny how it doesn't seem to have happened this time, unless I've missed something. Mind you, we may only be half way through our economic depression!

Recent labour arbitrations over here have upheld the right of police officers and hospital workers to work with visible tattoos. I'm sure this really impresses Muslims, whose right to work while wearing hijabs is under attack.

Perhaps, Gaw, tomorrow's iconoclasts and revolutionaries will adopt unblemished skin, the navy blue blazer and freshly-creased grey flannels as their "statement". I do hope I live to see them bring a human rights court challenge against a tattooed and pierced school principal who tried to ban them.
