I came across this post while researching my father’s wartime history. He worked at Cowley in 1940-41 at Pressed Steel, (to which the MPRD was attached and which together formed part of Morris Motors) after leaving school and before joining-up. The wrecked planes were brought to the site on large low-loaders called Queen Marys to be recycled into our own aircraft. The area was known locally as ‘Goering’s Graveyard’. My father worked on the production line making radiator fairings for Hawker Hurricanes. It is a matter of some bemusement to him that the factory is now owned by the Germans (BMW). I believe (though I’m not certain) that the photograph was actually taken by Nash and served as the basis for Totes Meer. The viewpoint appears to be looking north towards Horsepath and Shotover Hill, or possibly east towards Garsington.
