Glengoyne Comment of the Month Winner – August 2011

Every month we award a bottle of Glengoyne 10 year old single malt – the finest whisky available to humanity – to a commenter…

One of the joys of blogging is how the experiences of readers are able to inform the written word. Most recently, it was a particular delight when a reader, Bugs, confirmed from personal experience how Oliver Rackham, whose History of the Countryside was reviewed here, really is a very decent and interesting fellow:

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Oliver Rackham several times on field courses in Dorset and he is a fascinating & inspiring man – not to mention pleasingly eccentric.

His book is one I press on friends if they show the slightest interest in the subject. It certainly has made my enjoyment and understanding of our countryside immeasurably richer.

Nice to know and something that increases one’s enjoyment of what is already an enjoyable book.

The Dabbler always seeks to appreciate good things before denigrating bad ones (not that we shy away from the dirty work if it needs doing). It’s wonderful when our readers join in with an enthusiastic round of applause.

So Bugs, do enjoy a few wee drams on us. And just a reminder to everyone else – we don’t have any particular criteria for making our monthly selection. Comment away and one day you may be pleasantly and alcoholically surprised…
