Round Blogworld Quiz Special – Part 1

This week we have another fiendish mega-quiz from Brit’s Dad to keep you occupied in the last week of the holidays. As with the previous one, it comes in two parts. Brit the Elder has supplied 15 cryptic clues: the first 7 clues are below, the rest will follow tomorrow.
To make it extra tricksy, the answers are all connected. Who will claim the imaginary cream bun…?
  1. Roaring for the English batsman, indebted. (9)
  2. A number of spots cause sudden failure. (5)
  3. Pass it, if you’re good enough! (6)
  4. Acumen from wise head. (10)
  5. Famous horse backed to make a killing (6)
  6. Spell “allure” (5)
  7. Noise of mollusc, belonging to you and me.(7)
The second set of questions will appear tomorrow…

Yes, I can see the link — but no more answers at the moment!

Could 3 be ‘parcel’, as in ‘pass the’ (‘+ ‘par’ = ‘good enough”) ??
