Stan Madeley’s Hallowe’en Easter Egg!

The deadline to win a Slightly Foxed subscription is Monday night, but we’ve decided to extend the bonus Stan Madeley competition til Friday.

All you have to do to win a copy of the brilliant Second Class Male is improve on Betjeman by completing this line of poetry with something funny or profound or serious or daft:

Childhood is measured out by_______, before the______

The winner will be decided after much deliberation and alcohol by Brit and Gaw.

As a taster of the prize, Stan Madeley himself has kindly provided The Dabbler with an exclusive ‘Easter Egg’ or DVD Extra: one of the unseen letters that didn’t make it into the final book – an intriguing idea regarding colons put to, and rejected by, noted grammarian and pedant Lynne Truss.  If you don’t win, or don’t think you can win, Second Class Male is available to buy from Amazon and in all good bookshops (and some rubbish ones as well).

I can’t believe that Ms Truss wasn’t girded into action by Stan’s suggestion. But perhaps she thought that it’d be the thin end of the wedge, and she’d then have to take part also in British Semicolon Week (televised receiving a partial colectomy and a plastic bag), British Section Sign (§) Week, (“learn to love your Caesarian”) and American Period Week (I’m not even going to think about it but I suspect it may involve Rosie O’Donnell).
